Wiiija Records/Beggars Group

Wiiija was founded back in 1988 by three Rough Trade employees inspired by the innovative indie music coming out of the U.S. at the time. They started out with releases by Terminal Cheesecake, Bastard Kestrel, and Silverfish. A ton of great albums by bands like Cornershop, Huggy Bear, Bikini Kill, Free Kitten, Guv'ner, and Heavenly would follow. Wiiija became a part of the Beggars Group in 1996.

Cornershop
This London-centered group combines sounds and textures in unprecedented but remarkably successful ways. Imagine a place where droning sitars, reggae rhythms, pounding house beats, hip hop textures, roaring rock guitars, and unbelievably catchy pop hooks all sit comfortably side by side. It's called Cornershop.
