Hardcore

Although the genre would later birth straight-edge, emo, thrash, and metalcore, hardcore's roots lie in good ol' fashioned punk rock. Hardcore songs are just as fast and furious as traditional punk songs, but they tend to be more rhythmic and eschew snotty yells for screamed vocals.
