The Orwells are an exciting young band from the suburbs of Chicago that play vicious garage punk. Especially for kids in their late teens, the band’s sound is a pretty astounding mixture of raw attitude and energy far beyond their years. This five-piece joined us from Elmhurst, IL as an opener for Father John Misty, making it one of our most enjoyable sessions to date. Playing first, The Orwells easily held their own and instantly ignited the packed crowd. They played a lot of songs from their debut LP ‘Remember When,’ and some promising new songs as well, particularly the track “Other Voices.” The Orwells will be at SXSW this week, and although they are not playing the Epitonic / Brooklyn Vegan Chicago Day Party, they are one of our favorites playing in Austin this year, so make sure to check them out if you are down there. They’ve posted their schedule on their Facebook page and check out their label’s page (Autumn Tone) as well.
