Meat Wave is a post-punk power trio featuring two members of the heavy pop/rock band Truman & His Trophy. This session captures Meat Wave's raw live show, which included three songs not featured on their self-titled debut ("Sham King," "Cosmic Zoo," and "Sunlight"). These new songs show the band growing in rhythm and melody, particular in how the instruments and the vocals interact. Chris Sutter's vocals are snotty, but not childishly so, and slurred without being sloppy. He adds a slightly psychedelic edge to the band's otherwise straight-rocking post-punk songs, countering breakneck speeds and angular riffs with slow, flowing style.

Meat Wave are contributing their own color to the palette of post-punk right from the start, carving a spot somewhere between Hot Snakes and Shellac. Chicagoans can catch them December 7 on a stacked local show at Township with Canadian Rifle, Daylight Robbery, Carbonleak, and Drilling For Blasting.
