On March 3rd, Epitonic saki Sessions got soulful with one of the most exciting and intriguing acts currently operating out of Chicago. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound blends a powerful soul style with a punk attitude, combining driving rhythms, subtle horns, and sharp vocal harmonies with edgy lyrics and distorted guitars. Their expressive yet rather minimal compositions evoke vibrant fantasies of a dreamed-up collaboration between Otis Redding and Iggy Pop.
The past year has been stellar for JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound. Since signing to Bloodshot Records in June of 2011 they’ve toured the United States and Europe, released their first full length Want More, played at SXSW, performed alongside bands as diverse as Wilco, Thurston Moore, Robert Plant, Peter Bjorn & John, Levon Helm, and Fitz and the Tantrums, and were recently announced as part of Lollapalooza’s 2012 lineup.
These guys match their incredible talent with a vigorous dedication to their craft, and are super friendly to boot. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound will be playing their Chicago homecoming show at the Metro on Friday April 27th alongside Gold Motel, Blah Blah Blah, and Soul Summit DJ’s. (click here for tickets!)
