Our curated site combines the best features of a college radio station and an independent music magazine, offering an array of features, reviews and profiles alongside downloadable and streaming audio tracks. Our dedicated staff the globe in search of the best indie rock, electronic, hip hop, folk, hardcore, world, experimental and more, then serves it up on the site for your discerning ears.

Every artist page on the site includes a list of similar and recommended artists, as well as artists of the same genre or on the same label, so if you like what you hear, it's easy to discover more exciting and relevant music, then download and store it in your playlist so you can listen to it later. And now, Epitonic.com is bringing you even closer to the music you crave by offering the option to purchase complete digital downloads albums you want on the spot.

Is It Legal?

These days, with RIAA lawsuits scaring people into believing it's illegal to download music, it's no surprise that we often get emails from users asking whether their activities on Epitonic.com are legal.

The answer? Yes, downloading music from Epitonic.com is entirely legal, in just the same way that it's legal to download promotional music from a band's Web site, or that of its record label.

Epitonic.com works with record labels -- mostly small, independent labels that aren't involved with the RIAA or their lawsuits -- to promote the music we like. The labels send us CDs for review and sign a contract allowing us to post a track or two for you to download or stream (depending on their specification).

When you download music from Epitonic.com, you have the same "fair use" rights as you would with any music you purchase. You can use it for school projects, copy it for your personal use or burn it to CD. However, you do not have the right to use the music commercially or to distribute it yourself. If you want to pass it on to friends, you should tell them to download it themselves from Epitonic.com.

Downloading music is not a crime. Sharing music, however, is illegal, and we don't condone it. Ultimately, all artists deserve to get paid for their music. How can I listen to a song?

First, you must register or log in before you can use the player. Once you have done that, simply click on "Add to Playlist" button beneath a song that you want to hear, push in the "playlist" button on the player, and click on the song you've just added. Adding new songs will not interrupt the song that's playing.

How do I download a song?

Click on the download button to the right of a song.

How do I navigate the playlist?

The large central button at the top will both play and pause your music, while the buttons to the left and right of it will skip back one song and forward one song. You can see how much of your song has loaded in light pink and how much of your song has played in dark pink. Click anywhere in the dark pink and you will skip to that point in the song.

How do I delete a song?

Click the delete button to the left of a song.

Where are all my songs?

All of the songs in your playlist are numbered on the left, so that you can see where you are in your list. To see more of what you've added, click the "pg up" and "pg dn" buttons. At the bottom is a tally of how many songs total you have in your playlist and how many are hidden. Here, too, is a kind of "window shade" that will let you temporarily hide the album art so that you can see more of your list.

If I log off, will I lose my playlist?

No. If you have logged in, your playlist is stored on our server. This means that even if you log in on a different machine, your playlist will still be there.

How does the radio work?

If you go to genres/radio you will see available radio stations for each genre.

In addition, for some artists, you will see "[artist] radio," where we have mixed songs from that artists and similar artists that we think you will like.

I don't hear anything.

Try increasing the volume on the player using the lever to the right. If you still don't hear anything, check the volume level on your machine.
