Nutron's Record Bag: Sneaker Pimps - Bloodsport
What a surprise! I found
Sneaker Pimps by walking into Rasputin Music in Berkeley and asking them if they had anything else like Hooverphonic's first album A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular. Their reply was to check out Alpha and Sneaker Pimps. I bought Alpha's Come From Heaven, which I loved, and Sneaker Pimps' Becoming X, which was... ok. I listened to it but it wasn't exceptional. I spied their newest album, Bloodsport, in the used bin at Ameoba and snatched it up on a whim and it was definitely the biggest surprise in my bag. It's an excellent album. It's hard electronic music with great vocals and strong dynamics to boot. The whole album is in the beat and it's irresistible. It's like where The Crystal Method would have ended up had they stuck with that chick who did the vocals on "Comin' Back". The vocals are strong, both female and male, and the atmosphere of the album just strengthens them more with a shroud of sound. Songs are dark, angry, frustrated, whatever. They all hit their marks. Favorite songs: most of them, but "Kiro TV" and "The Fuel" are currently what's stuck in my head. Excellent album.
