I know, I'm late buying this. When it came out last year I couldn't spend the money on it, but the used bin at Ameoba was calling my name this week and this was one of my finds...

For those of you who haven't heard Air's debut Moon Safari you've missed out. This little gem has defined a genre of it's own in some ways, though I'm not sure it's got a name (does it? anyone? Synth-cheez? Ambient-Disco?). It's like a revival of 70's synth rock or something. It's futuristic and retro at the same time. I burned a hole through this CD when I got it and it's still a favorite. They released an album after Moon Safari entitled Premiers Symptomes that featured earlier works that they'd created, some of which was refined into songs for Moon Safari. It's decent, but nowhere near as good as the first album. The soundtrack to "The Virgin Suicides" followed this and it wasn't that good. But last year's 10,000 HZ Legend is worth buying I think. Some songs are mixed oddly and others just don't do it for me, but most of them are excellent and well worth the cashola, especially the songs featuring Beck and Buffalo Daughter. "Lucky and Unhappy" is probably my favorite track.
