Wallside
Makoto Recordings
Wallside is a bit more frantic and urgent than most of their colleagues in the southern Michigan emo/hardcore scene. Their sound is reminiscent of mid- to late-'90s Gravity Records bands like Heroin and Angel Hair, though they tend to play at slightly slower tempos and without the same extreme arty experimental tendencies. Still, the manic, anxious art-punk aesthetic is definitely in evidence: surprisingly poetic, insightful lyrics, raw, screamed vocals, writhing guitars, and high-speed rhythms. Primitive, urgent, and kind of beautiful, in a painful way. "Backpacks and Winterhats" appears on Wallside's only full-length, titled From the Sky.
