Up, Bustle And Out
Ninja Tune
Up, Bustle and Out is an abstract downtempo and experimental hip hop collective headed by Bristol-based musical maestros Senor Roody and Clandestine "Ein." Roody and "Ein" traveled from the wet and dreary West Country to the heat of Havana, Cuba in search of musical inspiration. There they hooked up with Cuba's number one flutist, Richard Egues, and his entourage of musical-minded mates.
Recorded at the infamous Calle 23 studios in Cuba and at Up, Bustle and Out's own studios in St. Andrew, Bristol, Rebel Radio is a modern masterpiece with roots firmly planted in the past. The album features over 20 Cuban musicians and ably blends trademark Ninja downtempo with traditional Cuban jazz. The film (shot in Super 8) that accompanies the album is produced by Jules "Shoes" Elvins of Waldo Films in London. Its images of a torn Cuba match the political overtones in the vocal samples used on most of the album's 13 tracks.
