Tony Watson
The Mekanic Label
Tony Watson isn't the most glamorous sounding name but that doesn't seem to have affected his production. With a style akin to The Deadbeats (DIY), Kruder & Dorfmeister (!K7 Records), and DJ Shadow (Mo Wax Records/Beggars Group), Mr. Watson produces deep, melodic instrumental downtempo that is perfect for lazy, hazy days and late-night antics.
Watson himself started the Mekanic label as a vehicle for his debut release, Four Corners 01 of 04, which he co-produced with DJ Rylo. He followed this up with the house record, Passages, for New York's Ibadan Records. Now, with releases under his belt for Abstrakt Reality Records out of Los Angeles, and a lot more planned for his own label, Watson is riding the wave of popularity that downtempo production has been experiencing. Thanks to Tony Watson, we can now add Mekanic to the label list that already includes G-Stone, Ubiquity Records, and Compost.
