The Spoon Wizard
Functional Breaks

The Spoon Wizard is Exeter-based producer Graham Gray who has been making electronic since the mid '90s. He cites Eat Static, System 7, Orb, and The Future Sound Of London as being highly influential. Gray found Future Underground Nation's regular club night Beatz and Bobs so fun he started pitching tracks for their spin-off label, Functional Breaks. His debut release, "Pantaloon," was well-received by TCR label boss and all round breakbeat ambassador Rennie Pilgrem among others. His second release "Shoe Monkey" was nominated breaks tune of the month in the U.K. club culture rag Muzik. Check the hard-edged rework by Plastic Raygun producers Phantom Crew and the soothing Balearic remix by Afterlife (favorites of the Cafe Del Mar compilations). "Hardened," "Seven," and "Pink Saturday" are all taken from Spoon Wizard's stunning '02 debut album, Believe Or Suffer. It's a revolution in breaks.
