Stars As Eyes
Tigerbeat6
Steve Ferrari and Craig Four are out to change the musical landscape of Providence, Rhode Island. Flying in the face of the art-punk movement heralded by Providence stalwarts Lightning Bolt, Black Dice, Arab on Radar, Pink and Brown, and Six Finger Satellite, Stars as Eyes craft beautiful electronic music. That isn't to say they've thrown the rock out the window; instead they've done their best to keep everything in perspective, bringing a rock sensibility to their laptops and synthesizers.
Their debut full-length, Freedom Rock, is the result of three years spent mixing elements of krautrock, hip hop, IDM, punk, emo, electro, and more. Despite this sophisticated combination of elements, the album remains refreshingly simple and lo-fi, relying more on beautiful melodies and interesting song structures than complicated glitch-work or unstable rhythms.
