Shadowbug 4
Soleilmoon Recordings
Shadowbug 4 is the pseudonym for California-based postindustrial Helter Skelter-style (as in the mid-'90s contemporary art show in Los Angeles) collagist Randy Greif.
On the 1999 album Tiny Voices of Love and Fear, which features "The Fortunate Slave," Greif atomizes the human voice into its most basic sonic elements while retaining the dynamic of pitch and naturally occurring rhythms that are innate to human speech. Greif has described this album -- a disturbing set of layered vocal cut-ups, Fourth World ethnic pulses, and tons of electronic treatments -- as a collection of "deconstructed daily affirmations." It may sound strange, but it's true.
