Sasha is renowned far and wide as a DJ/producer of incredible talent and character, and he has established a loyal following on both sides of the pond. Although he has gained celebrity status over the years as he developed his niche in the world of progressive house and trance, his genuine talent, warmth, sense of humor, and passion for music make him a favorite in many cities.
Early work with labels such as Stress (U.K.) and Mindwarp -- and with DJs such as Kimball Collins and John Debo -- put Sasha in the progressive camp, but even early on, his work was championed in the U.S. by DJs such as Scott Henry (Fever, Buzz). Sasha's commitment to furthering progressive house outside the U.K. eventually led him to residency at the Manhattan club Twilo and various West Coast appearances.
Sasha is widely known for both the breakthrough Nothern Exposure compilation with fellow DJ and regular collaborator John Digweed (aka Bedrock) and the "Be As One" single with vocalist Maria Naylor. Sasha has also worked with Orbital, Seal, The Pet Shop Boys, and The Chemical Brothers. In 1998, he even remixed the Madonna track "Sky Fits Heaven."
Sasha's frequent U.S. appearances with Digweed have led audiences to a greater acceptance of progressive U.K. sounds. Sasha's exposure to U.S. labels and artists has definitely had an impact on him too. He and Digweed have picked up on and promoted underground talent, moving beyond the confines of labels like "anthemic" and "progressive." His current style includes intense-sounding, twisted, beautiful hybrids of progressive breakbeat and house, dropping in acetates, new discoveries, and classics.
His commitment to pursuing new and innovative music is evident on singles such as "The Ride," an electro-driven hard-tech whammy produced with BT on Yoshitoshi. Recent noteworthy accomplishments include soundtrack direction and composition for the award-winning Playstation game "Wipeout III."
