Roy Davis Jr.
Bombay Records
Born in California and raised in the southern suburbs of Chicago, Roy Davis Jr. was introduced to dance music by late '80s pioneers such as DJ Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and Lil Louis. After spending time in the studio with acid-house inventors Phuture, Davis made the pilgrimage to New York to work for one of the biggest house labels of all time, Strictly Rhythm. During the early '90s, he released works on labels such as Force Inc., Big Big Trax, and Power Music. "Gabriel," released in '98 on Large, was hailed "Dance Tune Of The Year" by countless publications on both sides of the pond. Produced with Peven Everett, "Gabriel" is a smooth and sultry slice of soulful house music that woos crowds every time it is played.
Aside from producing, Davis also runs his own imprint, Undaground Therapy, and has a rigorous DJ schedule. His label has released works from Men From The Nile, Earth Boys, Paul Johnson, Jay Juniel, Louie Maldonado, Brian Harden, and DJ Skull. With recent releases for Thomas Bangalter's Roule imprint, the mighty Peacefrog, NRK, and Montreal's Bombay Records, Davis is one of the hardest working producers on the house music circuit. "Sonny," taken from Unreleased Bassment Traxx Vol. 2 on Bombay is a piece of house music heaven, replete with female vocals and live instrumentation. His debut full-length for Bombay, Traxx From The Nile, is a nine track-strong masterpiece with a stunning remix of "Watch Them Come" by the Jazzanova crew. Both Miguel Graca and Derrick Carter lend their remixing skills to "Watch Them Come." Buy the "Watch Them Come" remix EP and you'll get a Sean Dimitrie/DJ Ali mix and a Romatt mix to boot.
