Rhythm Division
Whole Nine Yards
Leigh Savage and Chris Hawkins -- aka Rhythm Division -- are key players on the underground warehouse scene in London. They began to experiment with a fusion of breakbeat and funk-driven techno as Paramatrix and 808 Force for the cutting-edge Sense of Sound label before signing three singles and an album to Whole Nine Yards in the summer of '97.
Their debut single, "Gimme Some Juice," received critical acclaim from the world music press, which labeled them as pioneers of a new musical genre. They have been championed by Annie Nightingale on Radio 1, and their live shows have inspired certain quarters of the media to compare them to Orbital. NME awarded them "Gig Of The Week" for their performance at The Scala.
Rhythm Division's unique ability to walk a tightrope between pure excitement and total panic has earned them the support of Lee Burridge, Rennie Pilgrem, FreQ Nasty, and The Propellerheads. "Uzi" combines cutting-edge breakbeat technology with an acute sense of how to work a floor.
