Editor and p ublisher of XLR8R magazine for over six years, Andrew Smith conceived the magazine in the beginning of 1993 from his bedroom and established it through hard work and fierce dedication to the idea that electronic music would soon be a force to be reckoned with in the United States. The publication went from an initial run of 2,000 black and white newsprint magazines to over one-hundred full-color glossy-pages with a circulation of 60,000. XLR8R is the first nationally distributed electronic-music-only magazine in North America, and one of the most respected US.. magazines throughout Europe and Asia, with quality design, avant-garde photography, and in-depth, challenging editorial.

XLR8R has also spawned an electronic music community-oriented website (http://www.xlr8r.com), a line of t-shirts and clothing, and it's own record label, XLR8R Tracks. XLR8R Tracks has released five albums spanning techno, house, drum and bass, downtempo, and ambient electronic music, garnering positive reviews in publications such as CMJ, Option, Streetsounds, Urb, Mixmag, Muzik, DJ, Bikini, and Sweater. Andrew Smith is head of A&R and production manager for XLR8R Tracks as well as a recording artist under three monikers, with releases on Eye-Q Records, Domestic, Emocean Music, Sire Records/Thrive, and Ubiquity Records.
