Nick Parkin
Soleilmoon Recordings
Nick Parkin is a British sound artist interested in the sonic properties that emanate from his slow, stately ritualistic performances. Gongs, flutes, hand drums, and clay pots undergo extensive sonic surgery through Parkin's mind-altering treatments. Engulfed in sweltering aural clouds, Parkin's recordings document a wide spatial differential of sound. A few sounds are thick with reverberating echoes, as if they were emerging from deep cavernous warehouses. Others are recorded at very close range, announcing aural details in perfect clarity.
Parkin transcends the technical aspects of his process on his 1998 album Island of Dust. He creates cyclical dark ambient passages that slowly ebb and flow in accordance to the celestial march of the stars across the sky.
