Nav Bhinder & Patrick Dream
Bombay Records
English native Nav Bhinder moved to Toronto in his teens and immediately started working his way up the city's house music totem pole. A resident at early '90s rave Harmony, Bhinder also co-presented The Noise Factory on CHRY FM with Patrick Dream. Bhinder and Dream, also a resident at Harmony, hit it off immediately, and the two moved to Montreal in '94 to pursue their musical endeavors as a prolific double act. Together they promoted and played Liquid, a Friday night house event at the 2500-capacity club Metropolis. There they graced the decks alongside (then) up-and-coming jocks such as Josh Wink, Mark Farina, and Derrick Carter.
For four years, the duo pushed their distinctive brand of tropical house at a number of high-profile Montreal clubs such as Playground, Groove Society, Sona, and Atomic. In '98, they decided it was time for their own imprint and founded Bombay Records. Initial releases from Derrick Carter, Miguel Graca, Chris Nazuka and Tim Shumaker caused a big stir on the house scene, getting the duo a residency at the fancy shmancy Stereo club, with its custom-built sound system designed by NYC producer/DJ Angel Moraes. Now riding high, the duo have released their own Bombay mix CD, which revisits highlights from the label's first eight releases and features a few unreleased Miguel Graca cuts for good measure.
