Nad Navillus
Jagjaguwar Records
Nad Navillus is on Jagjaguwar Records and is the pseudonym of Songs: Ohia guitarist Dan Sullivan, so it shouldn't come as much surprise that Nad Navillus makes minimalist acoustic music with strong experimental tendencies. It's a bit like John Fahey via Gastr del Sol's Crookt, Crackt, or Fly. On most pieces, Sullivan complements his entrancing finger-picked guitar with a some stark percussion, occasionally bringing in strings, a saw, or hushed ambient sounds, but for the most part it's two guitar tracks and Sullivan's thin but expressive tenor which drive the songs. Very much of today's Midwest musical underground, and very good. Nad Navillus's self-titled debut record appeared on the ProShop label in 1999. His second album, the lovely and meditative Show Your Face, appeared on Jagjaguwar in late 2001.
