Martina Topley-Bird was born in London, and then lived in Maidenhead, Somerset, Sussex and Bristol. Her family's diverse background -- El Salvadorian, Seminole Indian and African American -- combined with her various moves around the UK make it unsurprising that Topley-Bird's music is a beautiful amalgam of styles that goes beyond genre classification.

After a professional and personal relationship with Tricky that left her vocal mark on his earlier albums, such as Maxinquaye and Pre-Millennium Tension, Topley-Bird went on to polish her own musical career as an artist. Her debut album Quixotic, featuring her songwriting and production, was released on in the UK in 2003, and subsequently reconfigured and released in the US by Palm as Anything.
