You might be familiar with the harsh drill and bass Keith Fullerton Whitman creates as his alter ego Hrvatski. But an acquaintance with his work under that moniker would fail to prepare you for his debut excursion under his Christian name.
Enter Playthroughs, a complex production with a simplistic sound, a sound of solar winds and cosmic rays bouncing from the surface of icy moons and comets. These sounds are ethereal and gentle and powerful; hearing Bach through the womb might have a similar effect.
Each of the five compositions on Playthroughs features but a single instrument: the guitar. Whitman samples it, then puts it through his laptop and washes and transforms its sound until he has the voice he wants. In each composition he layers these samples into landscapes of sound. The results are a calming and beautiful meditations. Listen for yourself.
