Jaffa
Nude Recordings
Montreal electro-lounge newcomer David Kakon (Jaffa) came out of nowhere in 2000 with his Elevator LP for Canadian imprint Nude Recordings (a sub-label of drum and bass imprint Dune Recordings). A twentysomething classically trained pianist and organ aficionado, Jaffa mixes cool Motown grooves with slick beats, smooth string arrangements, and jazzy keys. His tracks, licensed to countless compilations, have been remixed by the likes of Masters at Work, Fila Brazillia, Fred Everything, and The Herbaliser.
"Sneakin'," Jaffa's modern rework of Billie Holiday's classic "God Bless The Child," features on the Stereo Deluxe compilation Bassic Instinct 3 alongside cuts by Moodorama, Boozoo Bajou, and Mo' Horizons.
