The Washington, DC band Grendel is another descendent of the brilliantly bright past of our Capital's punk underground. Grendel takes the sounds of the early Ian MacKaye-written, dub-influenced
Fugazi songs and mixes them with a stripped-down and somewhat quirky version of Jawbox. There seems to be a new order of bands in DC that take Latin beats and spy music and then gel them with the sound of disjointed punk a la the Minutemen and Trenchmouth. Grendel is an excellent example of the young breathing life into a classic music scene.
