Greg Davis
Carpark Records
Boston's Greg Davis is serious about music. So serious in fact, that after gaining a bachelor's degree in jazz studies from DePaul University in Chicago, he immediately undertook a master's of music in composition from the New England Conservatory of Music. Now that's what you call serious. Armed with this expert knowledge and a love of all things Warp, Davis began to release experimental electronic music as Parallel (with Don Mennerich) and Asterisk on his own Autumn label. After collaborating with Marumari and Hrvatski, Davis hooked up with NYC's Carpark Records to release his '02 debut album, Arbor. Nine tracks strong, the album traverses the plains of glitchy experimental techno, newfangled ambient folk, and acoustic-electronic jazz. It's like talking a walk through the Peak District with an I-Pod in your pocket.
