Washington D.C.'s Faraquet, featuring members of the late Dischord band Smart Went Crazy, definitely rocks like they're from the nation's capital, but put their own spin on that sound. The music is jazzy guitar-based rock mixed with more math than you'd expect to find on an MIT chalkboard. It's full of sounds you don't expect to hear from your average mathy indie rock band: Moog, piccolo bass, electric piano. Add to this mix some sparse, oddly personal, contemplative vocals and you have a recipe for some complicated, highly intelligent rock music.
"Study in Movement" comes from the band's split CD with Milwaukee's Akarso, released on 404 Records.
