Dropkick Murphys

In 1996 a bunch of Irish kids in South Boston got together in the basement of a barbershop with some beer and some instruments and started rocking out. Well, they don't play beneath the barbershop anymore, but they haven't stopped since. The Dropkick Murphys may be one of the most energetic bands in existence, as evidenced by their incredibly vibrant, raucous style of punk rock, their constant stream of new singles, and their relentless touring schedule. Not necessarily the most groundbreaking band in the world, Dropkick Murphys are an atavistic bunch content to play good hearty punk songs that conjure sweet memories of The Clash, Social Distortion, The Pogues, and other rowdy punk icons. As the Pogues reference might suggest, there's a distinct Irish flavor running throughout their songs, which vies for prominence with the flavor of beer. Great satisfying stuff that will have your head banging and your fist pumping. Much better for you than meth, but the effects are similar.

Dropkick Murphys have released more than a dozen singles, reprised on their 2000 Singles Collection. Their LPs include Do or Die ('98), The Gang's All Here ('99), The Business ('00), and Mob Mentality ('00). The track "Soundtrack to a Killing Spree" was the band's contribution to the TKO Records compilation Punchdrunk II.
