Calabash Case comes out of San Diego, CA with a confusing yet enjoyable mix of influences and sounds. Their earlier recordings definitely lean toward the San Diego punk rock sound, with a good dose of the Minutemen thrown in for good measure. Yet their later recordings gravitate toward a more traditional straightforward rock and roll sound.
These later songs incorporate bits of countryish Uncle Tupelo vibe and a flair for adding doses of wit to the equation. Don't let these eclectic ingredients scare you off though; both the more raw earlier Calabash Case and the more subdued and sophisticated later recordings make for a clear and beautiful vision.
