Former Loved Ones and Kinetics singer Bart Davenport goes solo with his own brand of quirky, endearing, folk-tinged pop. Working out of the great singer-songwriter tradition of people ranging from Donovan to Paul Simon to Nick Drake, Davenport writes subtle, understated songs that are both unabashedly pretty and decidedly peculiar. "Cool Shoes" from Fortune Records's Fortune Cookies compilation, is a cheerfully melancholy almost-love song full of small moments that surprise you with their intimacy. The song feels like the moment when the sun breaks through the clouds after hiding behind a gray sky all afternoon.
Davenport has also played bass in the psychedelic pop affair Persephone's Bees.
