Ancient Greeks



Guitarist Nathaniel Braddock and saxophonist Chris Warland were playing free jazz together and decided to start a band. With former Table member Tim Stevens on the drums and Andy Rench on bass, the band began to construct melodic mazes and polyrhythmic grooves for their debut album The Song Is You. A host of guests helped the Ancient Greeks on their 2003 Flameshovel Records debut, The Song Is You; Jeremy Boyle and Jim Baker of Joan of Arc shaped the electronics, Greg Hamilton and Jen Paulson played keyboards and Jason McDermott provided strings. Ancient Greeks put the pop in Chicago's patented post-rock approach. Ever wondered what it might sound like if Tortoise had put vocals on those early albums?
