Though they never achieved the success of some of their Boston contemporaries of the '80s and early '90s (
Dinosaur Jr., The Pixies, Buffalo Tom, The Lemonheads), Anastasia Screamed were, for a time, an integral and vibrant part of the local music scene there. Like many other New England indie bands of the time, Anastasia drew from a combination of the electric Neil Young, Big Star, and the hard-edged rootsy '80s college-rock of The Replacements to create a loud 'n' messy rock style that was instantly endearing. Anastasia Screamed released the albums Laughing Down the Limehouse and 15 Seconds or 5 Days before breaking up in 1992. Singer Chick Graning went on to front the band Scarce. Anastasia Screams' loose but fairly faithful cover of Television's "Marquee Moon" (from the Boston rock compilation Pipeline!) demonstrates the group's mostly unfulfilled potential.
