Island Row
XL Recordings/Beggars Group
On his second LP, 26-year-old self-professed hyperactive dyslexic Kristian Craig Robinson offers a dissertation on the ongoing hybridization of rock and electronic music. On
Island Row, you can hear the myriad sounds to which the peripatetic Malta-born experimentalist has been exposed, from the Eastern music he heard as a child in Borneo to the squalling guitars of American indie rock to the manic 2-step of London pirate radio stations. Using a sampler, guitar, mixing board, delay box, Dictaphone, and Atari, Robinson has created an arresting and unique album which fuses the sticky sentiment of pop, the paranoid frenzy of dark techno, and the chimerical beauty of electronic sound collage.
