Themes aside, it is undeniable that Mates of State has the harmonious elements of music making down snap. They pump out saccharine filled pop, song after song. With resourceful drum layers over a bass-laden vintage Yamaha organ, the newlyweds croon out vocals that merge into a harmonized loop. Bring It Back features tracks with titles such as "Like U Crazy," but once your stomach settles, you realize you're enjoying the convulsively catchy beats. This is the stuff of subconscious mutiny -- you'll catch yourself jumping around to "Beautiful Dreamer" in the privacy of your kitchen and humming "So Many Ways" on your way to work. Gooey and cheerful as the songs may be, their creative construction builds a delightful album that just can't help but spread the joy.
